Where are Mighty Paw's Yak Cheese Chews made?
Mighty Paw's Yak Cheese Chews are handcrafted by dairy farmers in Nepal - following an ancient Himalayan recipe. Once they're shipped to our US headquarters here in Rochester, NY, we hand-inspect and bag them ourselves, making sure you get the best quality and the tastiest chews!
What are Mighty Paw's Yak Cheese Chews made of?
Our Yak Cheese Chews are made with only 3 simple ingredients: yak and cow milk, lime juice and salt.
The lactose is removed during the curing process, which makes our chews lactose-free! Citrus fruits like lime are rich in Vitamin C and anti-inflammatory flavanone which is important for a strong immune system and maintaining a healthy weight.
Salt is equally important to a dog's diet because it's required for their cells to function properly/balance their electrolytes. It's also a natural preservative! As is the case with most things in life, moderation is key which is why lime juice and salt only make up a tiny portion of our Yak Cheese Chews!

Are Mighty Paw's Yak Cheese Chews recommended for puppies?
Your Yak Cheese Chews are a fantastic way to keep those little teeth busy! However, when it comes to puppies, especially those tiny ones around 5-7lbs, it's always best to proceed with caution. We recommend that any chew given to puppies should be monitored closely to ensure they're chewing safely and not swallowing large pieces that could pose a choking hazard. You can always remove the end piece and microwave it to turn into a cheese puff for your pup to enjoy!
It's also a great idea to consult with your vet to ensure The Yak Cheese Chews are suitable for your pup's specific dietary and developmental needs.
How long do Mighty Paw's Yak Cheese Chews last?
The Yak Cheese Chews naturally soften with a dog's saliva. Every dog's chewing style is different though, so how long they last depends on your pup's individual style! If you have an aggressive chewer, you can let your dog enjoy Your Yak Cheese Chews for just a few minutes to start and then gradually lengthen the amount of time you give them the chew over time.
What should I do if The Yak Cheese Chews are too big for my dog?
There are a few options that may work perfectly for you and your pup:
- Let Your Yak Cheese Chews soak for a few hours in a bowl of water. Once they're softened, you can break them into smaller pieces that may work better for your dog. However, please remember that dog chews should always be a little larger than your dog's mouth to avoid them swallowing it whole.
- Another option is to hold one end of The Yak Cheese Chews while you're letting your pup chew on the other end. Not only does this slow down their chewing, it also teaches polite behavior around high value items like our chews and provides awesome bonding time between you and your dog!
- Microwave The Yak Cheese Chews for 60 seconds. Then place the chew on a cutting board and CAREFULLY cut it in half using a large kitchen knife. This works best when the chew is still warm. Be sure to only give your dog one piece at a time and don't cut it into smaller pieces as your dog could choke if the pieces are too small.
What can I do if my dog chews the Yak Cheese Chews down to a very small size?
Our Yak Cheese Chews naturally soften with a dog's saliva. Every dog’s chewing style is different though, so we always recommend supervising your pup’s chewing and removing the chew if you see sizable chunks breaking off or any piece that gets too small to prevent your pup from swallowing it. You can soak them in water and microwave them to soften and to turn them into cheese puffs for your dog to enjoy.
How do I turn The Yak Cheese Chews end piece into a crunchy cheese puff?
Great question - you definitely don't want to waste that end piece! Here's the magic: Soak it in water for 5 minutes, then microwave it for 45-60 seconds. Your dog will get to enjoy a delicious crunchy cheese puff! Sometimes, depending on how big the piece of chew is, microwaving for a little longer might be necessary. You can even microwave entire chews.
How often should I give The Yak Cheese Chews to my dog? Is it okay to give my dog 1 Yak Cheese Chew per day?
First, it's important to acknowledge that individual dogs can have different dietary needs and sensitivities, so what works beautifully for one pup might be different for another. Generally, if your dog has been happily enjoying The Yak Cheese Chews and showing no signs of digestive upset, it sounds like they're agreeing well with them!
However, we recommend considering the following:
Monitor your Dog: Keep observing for any changes in their digestion or overall health.
Consult with a Vet: It's always a smart idea to check with your veterinarian, especially if any dietary concerns arise.
Moderation and Variety: While it's wonderful that The Yak Cheese Chews keep your dog entertained, varying their treats can provide a balanced diet and different nutritional benefits.
Are there any storing recommendations for The Yak Cheese Chews?
We recommend storing Your Yak Cheese Chews in a room temperature area that isn't too dry or too humid. Storing them in a cupboard in the packaging they came in is perfect!
Can I refrigerate The Yak Cheese Chews?
Refrigerating The Yak Cheese Chews will make them brittle and can cause cracking which can be dangerous for your pup. We recommend storing Your Yak Cheese Chews in a room temperature area that isn't too dry or too humid. Keeping them in a cupboard in their original packaging works great!
Do you offer free samples to try Your Yak Cheese Chews?

If you are concerned about the amount of sodium your pup is consuming, we would recommend reaching out to their vet.
Is the lime juice in your Yak Cheese Chews safe for dogs?
Yes. Very little lime juice is used as a natural preservative to help harden the yak milk. The amount used is so small it is not harmful to dogs.
Can the Yak Cheese Chews be put in the oven to turn into a cheese puff if I don't have a microwave?
Unfortunately, no - the microwave heats up the moisture in the chews which is what causes it to puff, the oven wouldn’t have the same effect.
Are the Yak Cheese Chews messy?
Every dog's chewing style is different, so we always recommend supervising your pup, but our Yak Cheese Chews are not messy compared to other similar treats, which makes them great treats to give to your pup at home!

My dog is not interested in the Yak Cheese Chews. What can I do?
Some dogs need time to warm up to new chews—it's totally normal! You can try microwaving the end piece for 60 seconds to turn it into a cheese puff; many pups find this irresistible. If that doesn't help, please reach out to our customer support team at team@mightypaw.com and we'll be happy to help.
No. We do not sell Yak Cheese Chews holders.
Our bulk Yak Cheese Chews come in Large size.
Is it normal for the Yak Cheese Chews in my bag to have variations in size?
Yes! Because our yak chews are handcrafted in small batches, there can be some natural variation in shape, length, and width from piece to piece. Even when a chew appears a bit smaller, each stick is produced to meet a target weight range of grams per stick specific to each size, which ensures you’re receiving the correct amount of product even if the dimensions vary visually.
